I have a early 70's JD 1020 gas. Last summer and this summer with engine time maybe 10-20 minutes and just blading grave drive, engine just shuts down and when trying to restart, nothing. No cranking, no lights on dash just dead. Except, turn the key to the far left and red light (accessory maybe for lights)comes on dash. Let it set for a day, nothing. Day two nothing.

Have you checked battery voltage? Also have you cleaned/tightened all FOUR battery cable ends? Now would be a good time to relocate battery ground cable that attaches to battery box from BB to engine bolt such as starter mounting bolt.
