Cracked head on B (52)

Hello, I am just getting back to working on my old tractors after several years of not being able to. Unfortunately, I left water in the radiator. Froze and cracked head. not something you think about in southern Louisiana. Anyone tried patching external cracks with JB weld?

I wouldn't use JB Weld. As there's plenty of good used heads to be had for a descent price. Google All States Ag Supply. Seven tractor yards. They should have one !!!! I can check at home as there's a B sitting in the salvage there. Where do you live ?

I have one off a 1950 b Id take 100 for it, and have it flexed for another 30 plus shipping.Total of 130 plus shipping.

Thanks, but I have a second B (48) that I think the head is ok. I have already stole some parts off of it. It is in pretty rough shape. Any suggestions about how to determine if used head is ok?

I'd have it magnafluxed. Check it out on utube.

JB weld is NOT an answer. Take it to a machine shop guy that you trust(or find one with help from the nice folks on this forum) and go from there. HTH, b

JB weld actually works just fine if the crack is not on the gead gasket surface or inside the combustion chamber. The coolant has zero pressure. Just sand blast the area & smear it on.
