dad has a 2940 diesel, when driving on the road you always have to keep turning the steering wheel back to the left, (goes straight for alittle ways) not really notice in the field

Having to continually correct the steering wheel is a characteristic of hydrostatic steering. Some models/types are worse to leak internally than others.
