Greetings, first time poster.
I have 65 3020 gasoline tractor. Tractor starts idles and runs fine...for the first hour or so. Once tractor warms up good it starts spittin and sputtering like its running out of fuel. If i hold in clutch and throttle it back to about half throttle it will smooth
Until you put under a load again. I was raking hay today and it started doing it. I played with the idle mix. Screw and load mix. Screw and it straightened out for about an hour then started acti ng up again this time i was able to throttle it back to about half
And it ran ok for about another hour afterthat it go so bad i had to take it back to the house and get the ole oliver out.
It has marvel schebler usx 36 carb. I rebuilt carb last fall after this problem first materialised after the tractor had been ran out of gas while mowing(not by me) ran fine until we started hayin.
Couldnt run hay mower on it because of this.
Also, pulled plugs tonight extremely white like its runjing really lean.
Any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same setup on my 3020. This has to be the worst carb ever built. With that said start with the basics. Blow out the fuel line. I have two filters in the fuel line, one before the fuel pump and one after, replace the fiters. I would clean the tank but that takes some time so next would be the carb. Take it apart and clean it good. If you can see any physical damage to internal parts then replace such. I have never had much luck rebuilding them so Maybe someone else can chime in Here. I have two extras on the shelf that need help.

Replace the M-S with a Zenith carb. M-S is known for poor running in s 3020. Same thing with a ford 4500 TLB.

Roger might be right. I have seen dented cap not allow air in causing a vacumn after you run for a while.

I would take care of the low hanging fruit first.

Loosen the gas cap to make sure it is venting.

Check spark right after it dies. Bad spark can make it seem like the engine is running lean.

If that fails, there is probably dirt moving around in the carb.

I also have a 3020 gas but it runs fine just went through the same exact problem on my red tractor after changing all electrical.plugs points condenser timing etc.I did not change the rotor or cap because they looked perfect no carbon tracks.tractor still ran good for 20 min. then it would spit and sputter with no power went back put on new rotor and cap problem solved.

Thanks guys just checked back. Drained tank got a little sediment moved bout 30 round bales no problem sat over night moved bout six more bales and started acting up again. Now wont run at all. Will fire and run long ebough to mt bowl then she dies.def think its a fuel prob. Gonna give it thourough goi . Over before next cuttin.

I had similar problems with my 3020. When the fuel tank was getting low, the problems started when under load. The fuel pump had a glass sediment bowl and would show air bubbles so we replaced the pump and it works good now. With more fuel in the tank, gravity flow would compensate for a bad pump. Also could be the float in the carb. is set too low.
