I realize this tractor is a bit new for this discussion forum, but any advice or help would be appreciated. On a 1982 4440, what is the easiest way to remove and replace the hydraulic pump in front. The tech manual states that you have remove the front axle and assembly, but my Dealer said it can be removed from the top by removing the fuel tank, ac condenser, rad etc. which is supposed to be easier???
Any experiences with the above process? Thanks Ellis.

Why do you want to remove the front pump? Many front pumps have been rebuilt and the hydraulic problems still exist. As the problem often is not the front pump.

It is much easier to take it out the top even though you are taking the fuel tank etc.
I agree with B&D, are you sure it needs to come out. Have seen many JD hydraulic problems "diagnosed" as pump issues. What symptoms does she have?

If you do take it out remove the radiator, get all the lines off, unbolt the frame that is between the engine and the pump, pry it forward a bit then lift the frame and pump out together,,now back to the "why" part, give us a little history of what is happening....

Just occured to me from the 4 guys that responded to you .... Bet you don't even know how many hours and years of experience just answered you ... What makes this site wonderful !!!!!

On the run here, but seal is starting to weep and I know a replacement seal kit can be put in with the pump in the tractor but success is questionable. This is preventative maint. as I don"t want the pump to start leaking while we are cutting or baling hay. Can"t afford any down time!! LOL Appreciate the feedback and expertise.

Ooh if it's the seal leaking your on the right track, but check the seal drain line and make sure it's open and clean...
