John Deere OTC tool boards

Hi everyone,

My dad and I just bought 10 OTC tool boards filled
with John Deere specialty tools, and I would say
they are all 80-90% complete. We think they are
worth quite a bit of money since they are so rare
and getting fairly old. Does anyone collect these
or know more about them, such as how many total
boards were made for Deere, a tool list for each
board, etc.? Thanks.

There were groups of tools for every aspect of tractor repair. By that I mean there were specific tools for engine, transmission and hydraulic repairs and other operations as well. For new generation tractors engine tools were marked with a JDE prefix, transmission tools were marked with a JDT prefix and hydraulic tools were marked with a JDH prefix. I'm not sure how many boards there were but probably about 5 or so. Nevertheless there were other tools with other numbers which were not on boards. A good source of identifying information is at the end of various John Deere tech manuals where the tools are listed with pictures. I bought some new gen tools a few years ago. Neither I nor the seller could come up with any values based on sales or auctions so we dickered a bit and made a deal. There have been a few auctions lately with tools. Maybe you can find some auctions results. I'd be interested in the new gen tools if you're wanting to sell.

I went to two auctions last year that had the 5 boards for the 1010/2010 and the 3010/4010/5010 tools. The first auction was on the weekend in central nebraska (small town an hour away from city/dealer) at an old jd dealership that stopped selling deere tractor etc. in the mid 80's but still serviced tractors. These boards went between $1000-$1200. The second auction was near norfolk nebraska(22,000 population) during the week and had the same boards and a dealer half hour away. The 30105010 board with the engine tools went for $250 I bought the 30105010 board for the three point tools paid $150 the other boards for less. These boards were on the website for pics even. But everything at the first auction went high, 5-10 guys from my area couldn't believe the prices and just shook there heads, I left after the $1000 boards sold. chris
