Which baler is older the JD 214 T or the JD 24T Twine tie balers.
Are parts interchangeable?

What are the good and bad of the 214T I already have a 24 T.
I have a chance to pick up a 214 T fairy cheap and it has a thrower on it.

Thanks Jeff

The 24T is newer, the 214 was a larger baler made along with the 14T. The larger baler with the 24T was the 224. There was some interchangable parts, not many.

I had one and it is a rugged built baler but is slower than the later models. If the thrower is mechanical it will not be worth your while to mess with it. They were very troublesome. If someone adapted a newer hydraulic thrower to it they are much better.

214 has a short chain thai drives knotters with no idler that when the chain & sprockets get worn is very loose with no way to remove slack. About the only parts that will interchange with a 24 are knotter parts.

Other way around. 14 series and the 24 series were built at the same time. The 214, 216 and 224 series replaced the 14 and 24.

Sorry but 14T & 214 were built together then 24 & 224. The high density balers I'm not 100% sure about because the JD dealer I worked for didn't sell them

We had a 224T, my Dad always said it was the best baler he ever had, and that it was far superior in reliability to the others Deere was making at that time.

224 were a lot higher capacity than 214's but a 346,347 or 348 are easier to operate & higher capacity because of they're easier to time and have a wider pickup attach with teeth spaced closer together
