Shifter knob thread size ?

One of the minor issues on the 850 tractor I have borrowed is the missing shifter knob, so I want to add a wood ball.

I think this is a metric thread and I do not have any metric taps or dies. Can someone tell me the size of the threads on the gear shift lever?

I looked at the parts diagram on the JD site, but it didn't say anything about the threads.

If you decide to still make your own wooden knob, I think you could just drill the hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the shift rod and tap it with the shift rod threads.

That did work out perfectly!
