2010 power steering

I have a 2010 loader backhoe and the internal hydraulic pump I believe is out. there is no output flow from the pump. Can I hook up the power steering lines to the backhoe hydraulic system to get the power steering back. Do I have to watch the flow or pressure if I do so? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you aware there is a disconnect for the hydraulic pump? It is on the left side below the clutch pedal, should have a small pedal that comes up through the floor board. Depressed this small pedal disengages the pump. The transmission serves as a resavoir for the hydraulic and has a filter. If clogged this filter will not let the pump to work.

in addition that small pedal that jim refers to might be gone and in its place a spring located under the foot board holding that shaft in position. If the spring has come loose the pump has disengaged.

as far as re-routing the loader/backhoe hyd to the pwr steering consider the following: the internal hyd system is a 1150 psi open center system. is the external system open or closed center? priority and flow control could be a challenge.

also the filter jim referred to is a metal screen mesh filter that can become clogged. try cleaning it in solvent and re-install. a new one from deere is around 150 bucks.

Besides the power steering, the pump also supplies oil to the transmission shafts so it needs to be made functional. As jasper and farmerzeb say make sure the pump lever is engaged and also clean the filter located in the bottom of the transmission case on the Rt side below the foot board, round cover with 3 bolts. It is a micro screen and tough to clean, the way I test it is to stand it on end and fill it with oil. If the oil is slow to run out it is not clean. If the pump is engaged and the filter is clean and you still do not have power steering check the proportioning valve. It's located in the round hole above the foot board Rt side. It's a little tough to get at, remove the 3/8 inch line to get the bolts out of the round cover as in the picture below. PS: it may be a flat cover as their was a design change in later serial #'s. Post back if you need more help..

Thanks for the help. I got a manual to help. I got the filter out and it was completely plugged. Looks like the filter was never cleaned. I have a new leak under the rear end now that the pump works. It is pouring out of a small hole in the center of the rear end. Tried to find or look up where or what this hole is for and what seal may be gone. Tractor was cheap but I am paying for it now.

I wonder if hyd leak is the hole in this housing that the cotter key(parts Key #13) protrudes through. If so the leak would be associated with hyd pump or fittings.
