46 A oil change?

Time for a oil change on my 46 A. What oil should I use? Detergent, non detergent? what weight? I have a manual on order but it's not here yet. There are two "caps" underneath, I "assume" the front one is the engine oil filter? Is the rear one for the transmission? What oil / gear lube should I run in the transmission? :?:

you can run Rotella 15w40 in everything.

the large hex bolt is the oil filter base and the small square plug is the drain.

I run Rotella 15/40 in all my two clinders. The cap your refering to in front of the oil filter canister is the oil pump housing. Its a round plate with i think 4 bolts in it. The oil drain is a square pipe plug close to the oil filter. Futher back is the trans case drain before the rear end. The rear end has a drain on the bottom of it.

The operator's manual recommends three engine oil weights depending on air temperature.<li>Above 90oF. S.A.E. 30</li><li>32oF. to 90oF. S.A.E. 20</li><li>Below 32oF. S.A.E. 10-10W</li>

We use 15W-40 Diesel oil in all our tractors.

The photo below shows the engine oil drain plug; the oil filter is on the left and oil pump is on the right.

Remove the breather stack and filter to pour in the oil.

Open the oil level test cock and pour in the oil.

Add oil until it drips out the oil level test cock; when the oil drips out it is full.

We use 140W GL1 oil in all our tractors.

Add transmission oil to the bottom of the threads; takes about 7 gallons.

The photo below shows the oil cup on the bottom of the air cleaner.

Be sure to add clean oil to the cup.

Hope this helps.

I drained all the fluids today. The engine oil was as much gasoline as oil and the transmission had allot of water mixed in. What would you suggest to flush out the transmission before I refill it?

How would water get into the transmission?
