Best 4020 clutch kit?

We're ready to buy new clutch parts for our 1971 4020 and haven't decided yet to go with John Deere parts or some other supplier. Looking for responses from those who have bought 4020 clutch kits from any where, price paid and how well they are holding up. Thanks.

I have been using the A&I kit, no problems with them,I'm thinking they are in the $600 area.be sure you deal with your flywheel, if it's not flat it won't work out well...and if it's been ground too many times the pressure plat will bottom out with out holding the disc..

I generally use Hy-Capacity clutches with no problems. As Tim said be sure and have the flywheel resurfaced and check the adjustment of the new clutch.

How do you know if it has been ground too much ? I know there is a step measurement, but is there also a total thickness measurement ?

I favor Hy-Cap over A-I. I never resurface just replace flywheel from Hy-Cap also. Just disappointed they don't have the pins also but you have to remove the old pins before resurfacing an old flywheel.

This might sound crazy to some, but what I have noticed between aftermarket and jd clutch disks, is that jd clutch facings have the grooves on the facing cut through the rivet holes and aftermarket don't and this causes the clutch to not release right away. Sounds crazy but have put grooves through the rivet holes on disks that previous techs used aftermarket disks and cured the release problem. chris
