John Deere model 40 carb

Just purchased a carb rebuild kit for a zenith carb the numbers on my carb are as follows the top number is 7-96 and the bottom number is 14996A In order for me to set my float I need to know which series carb this is Can you help me with this? Thank you

Turn the top half upside down and set the float level and you should be good to go.

I do not understand set the float to what? Don't I need a measurement?

With the carb body upside down, the distance betwen the carb gasket surface and the end of the float should be 1/4"to 9/32".

With it upside down the top of the float will be level ( same plane just like one stair step above another ) with the surface of the carburetor bowl.
