Sharps high shipping prices

I needed a valve cover gasket for my A and my local Deere dealer it would be 29 dollars plus tax. I looked around and found that Sharps had them for 11.50 plus shipping. I ordered one from them and I got it in today. The UPS man delivered a big ole box. I thought all I ordered was a gasket why such a huge box. They had the gasket in a small stiff flat box in the inside packed with probaly a whole news paper wodded up. I looked at the invoice and the charged me 14.80 shipping. The total was 28 dollars and some change. If I knew that I would got one from mother Deere. The bad thing my wifes cousin sent her a bananna box packed full of clothes and weighed over 20lbs and the shipping was only 25 dollars from UPS. I think Sharps stuck it to me. I have bought mufflers and other things in the past and the shipping wasnt bad. I guess I should go back to Stiener or Davenport.

If you bought it 'on line', you should have been able to see shipping costs at 'check out'. I have sold a variety of parts for a variety of uses all over the world. The actual cost of shipping is governed by the shipping co., there HAS to be a fee to package and prepare for shipping + the time to connect with the shipping co. Seems reasonable to me, AND, you got what you wanted - yes?

on gaskets check NAPA I am getting gaskets their for my unstyled A and my mid A for half the price and they have to order them but don"t charge shipping. They get them sometimes the next day. On Sharps I buy a lot from sharps big orders shipping not bad but small stuff shipping little steep. I checked them on a radiator rebuild kit for a unstyled A shipping was high so I went to Davenport they didn"t charge me shipping.

I checked at my local NAPA and they couldnt find a number on the gasket. All they could find was a engine gasket kit. I called the order in over the phone at Sharps and they said they didnt know the shipping until the packed it. They could of sent it out in the small box that was inside tha huge box. I have ordered heavy stuff like mufflers and steering wheels from them and the cost wasnt bad for them. Next time I will find out for sure what it will cost. O well live and learn.

Online purchases have the shipping cost clearly shown before you buy. For instance i hadto buy an axle cover for 4 bucks cost 15 to ship it to me. CChalk up that 11 bucks for me to go shopping in my underwear and never having to leave the house.

It costs $15 to ship a small box of air with UPS, that is just the facts of the matter. On your 20lb box, I don"t doubt that it was not that much more, you pay a basic fee just because you are shipping something, so light weight packages are disproportionately expensive to ship. Neither Sharp"s or any other company controls that.
