1973 4230, when the tractor gets hot the steering
column will knock at lower engine rpms, speed it
up and it goes aways.. If I turn the steering
wheel a bit either direction it goes away. Its no
the front pump, it was rebuilt w/ new shaft and
bushings and coupler. Also has new trans pump in
the last 50 hours. The tractor does steer a bit
strange after roading for awhile. It turns good
left, but its slow to respond to the right
sometimes. It turns with little effort but its
like its behind to the right. I can have the wheel
turned all the way to the lock on the right and
the actual wheels will still be turning..
Sometimes it fine, no problems ever in the field,
only going down the road.. I am guessing orings in
the front steering motor? Could this leakage be
causing my knocking problem in the column? Or
should I just rebuild both and be done with it?
Thanks guys!
