Clutch handle removal

Whats the best way to get the clutch handle on a John Deere A off. I have the puller made just for it that goes around the handle mount that pushes the bolt tru but broke the bolt for the puller off. Not real excited to put heat on it dont want to brake the mount off. Thanks

I can tell you what has worked well for me IFFFFFFF you can get to it okay. We have used a vibrating air hammer with a big flat blunt punch end and they pushed n vibrated right outa there slicker n a whistle. In the days before that we heated the outer circle in hopes the heat would expand it away from the center pin and got em out that way eventually, but you have the nifty little puller, I use it and apply heat in the outer edges n torque it down a bit n heat more n torque again slowlyyyyyyy n heat n torque till she starts out. A new pin n bushing feels so nice n tight once its all rebuilt. How many of those old ones where you can move the handle like a foot either way lol.

Thanks John I have used this puller many times with no problem but this one wants to be stubern in a way we broke the puller bolt. didn't want to get out the blue wrench but looks like will have to. Thanks for the info

I agree with John T, an air hammer does the trick. It took a few days of soaking down with rust remover, but the air hammer finally got mine loose.

I cant remeber which way the handle is an A but when i took the handle off my 70 i took a piece of all theard and double nutted one end and put a nut in the handle and it pushed it right off. Took right out of one the old books i have.

A little heat won't hurt the casting-I have done many using heat and a puller like you have-just heat and torque a little, add a little more heat and torque a little more until it pops loose.

I would NOT use a air hammer. Any hammer and cast does not go well for me. I bet that reduction cover will be expensive. I would heat the bolt best you can. Let it cool. Soak with PB Blaster. Fashion a press with some bolts and flat stock and start pressing. I bet that will work. Have fun.

I guess I should have said a cheap, weak air chisel.
I know them new ones have a lot of hammer in them.
I've never broke anything with mine. It is a small one that cost about $20.
If I think that mine might break something, I fashion up a puller.
