Clutch problem - late styled B

I have a late styled B, and this winter I disassembled the pulley and clutch to replace the two clutch facings and clutch disk. It's all back together, but now the clutch seems "mushy". It does not have that satisfying "snap" when fully engaged. It was kind of like this before I took it apart, but now it seems worse. Could something else be worn out? Could I have assembled it incorrectly? I've got to get it going before haying season!

Do you have a manual to show proper assembly and adjustment? It's quite involved to explain on here but just improper adjustment could cause what you are experiencing and just adjusting the nuts where they were before won't get it. Don't get me wrong , there very well might be something worn out but we need a starting point as to where to direct you.

B-maniac: Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have a John Deere parts catalog, as well as an I&T manual for this tractor, and I followed the assembly and disassembly process carefully. I realize the adjusting nuts will not be in the same place as before, since the clutch disks are new. I used my torque wrench to tighten the three nuts all equally (not very tightly), just so the clutch would engage. It does engage, as I mentioned, but it does not feel right. The best description I have is "mushy". Would worn dogs possibly cause this?

Tighten each nut a turn and give it a try. It's a simple clutch. If tightening the nuts does not help, then look at the dogs - compare them to new/rebuilt ones.

Did the rear floating disk behind the driver drop out of place when you put it togeather?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will take it apart agin to make sure the inner disk did not fall out of place. If that's OK I guess I will run it some to see if the feel improves. Is there anything else that can go wrong beside worn dogs?
