JD 80 transmission

Got the 80 out of the shed today and couldn"t get it in 6th gear. The lever would not slide back enough to go in 6th. Tried several times and then went to the other gears and tractor will not move and acts like the brakes are locked on. When shifter is in nuetral it will free wheel. Did something come loose on shifter and could it be in two gears at the same time? It worked fine until we tried to get into 6th gear and take it for a ride. Thanks for any help!

when you say free wheel, do you mean you can tow it? I it is locked in gear it will drive when the shifter is in neutral. can you put the clutch ahead and stay still?

I tried it again today and when the shift lever was in nuetral and I pushed clutch lever ahead it was actually in 6th gear. I went a little ways and pulled clutch back and then it went into nuetral. All gears now work like they should except for 6th. Can't slide shifter back far enough to get it into 6th. Thanks for any help!

That means it its still half in gear.
