630 sticky valve when cold

Another problem my 630 has. Before the engine warms up, it will only run on one cylinder. I was told by someone that I have a sticky valve. Is there an additive or something I can put in the gas to free this up? Or is it best to tear into the head. Thanks.

Check the distributor, points, cap and rotor. My 60 was doing the same thing. HTH

please, before you rip open the engine, do a compression check when cold. If the valve is stuck youll have zero compression on that missing cylinder, or at least much less. also, start it up with the valve cover removed (youll have only a tiny oil loss) & at low idle you may be able to see it sticking. However, its much more likely you have an ignition issue, (try swapping wires & plugs to see if the opposite side misses) or even a lean condition on that barrell of the carburetor (something plugged).
