i need to replace the bearings on countershaft. can the countershft be removed without removing upper shaft and gears? If I remove locknut will it slide out or is there something else?

Thanks
Rick

I got it out, wasn't as bad as I thought. Another question, there were no shims under cap, how many do you think I will need after I replace bearings on both ends?

Not true you have to use dial indicator. You can use shims .003 and adjust till bearing locked in cone then start adding the shims till it is free...much simpler way...most all the tractor of any use have the conical bearning slopped out.

Did you get it out without removing the top shaft & gears ?

I don't think I'd even try it as the bearings up there are likely not good as the same metal flakes went thru them too.

Yes, it came right out. the bearing on the top shaft look good and are tight. Looks like they have allready been changed.
