M brake locks

Last fall I purchased a 1950 M for a winter project. I've gotten along pretty good;learned a lot; but I can't figure out how to release the brake locks. Will someone please clue me in? I feel kind of embarrassed to ask.

Been awhile since I ran mine. But aren"t there notched plates attached to the pedals that you rotate around as you depress the pedal ?

They are not the friendlist things to use. Press the brake peddles to relieve the tension against them and rotate the locks backwards to release them.

Quite simple--- lean forward trying to avoid whanging your head on the steering wheel, but never mind you will at least brush the steering wheel with your cap and it will fly off onto the ground so you will need to get off the tractor and chase it down before releasing the brakes anyway. Next If you can find away to get back on the MT without spraining your ankle, push down very hard on the pedal you wish to release but be ready to place you index finger on the little protrusion on the cam looking sort of attachment that has now locked up even tighter because you didn't get your finger on it soon enough, then as you push even harder on the pedal tip back the cam looking attachment with your index finger. I emphasize index finger because if you use the salute finger as the cam rotates back it will cause your "should have used" index finger to come between the stop on the cam and the foot rest and in a few moments you will notice a very blue finger nail. Now having the right brake released do the same for the left brake except you will notice that when you put you foot on the left brake pedal you leg is in the road to put your now black and blue index finger on the little afore mentioned protrusion, so the best way to work around this is retrieve a hammer from the toolbox that cannot be accessed from the seat, so once again dismount from the MT and get the hammer that is likely among other various tools you haven't seen in years, all of which have been buried under a huge mouse nest causing the hammer to smell like mouse pee, then if you can manage to get back on the MT without spraining your other ankle, hit the afore mentioned protrusions with a good hard swing of said hammer and if you haven't locked up the brakes to solidly by now the pedals should pop loose, however if by chance you have manure on your shoes which of course you have scrapped off onto the pedals in all the "pushing harder" the afore mentioned manure will hit you squarely in the face. I know this should be easier but I have owned 3 MT's and this is the best way I know how to do it

Could you have installed them up-side down? I know some one who did that once.....

Well I guess I'm not alone in finding these brakes frustrating. Maybe in my younger days I could have reached the locks while seated and trying to hold the tractor in place. I thought some one might have devised a system to make it easier to release them.
