420 power steering problems

I have a 420t slant steer with power steering and I am having a few problems. I cannot get it to turn all the way to the turn stops in either direction. It wil turn 2/3 of the way to the right but only 1/3 to the left. I can manually kick the tire and get it to go over with pressure, but the steering wheel will not turn any farther. Could the piston be maxed out. Does a power steering machine have less turning ability than a manual steer?

I finally figured out my problems. I took the steering tower off and found that someone has gotten the timing off on the gears on the power steering cylinder. It has timing marks and they were off by a mile to say the least. I am going to rebuild it while off the machine and hopefully everything checks out ok.

I have flushed my hydraulic system and the tractor still won't turn stop to stop. Does anyone know if the power steering models were more limited on turning radius.??

Shawn, I have a 420W with PS, it turns pretty tight for a wide front tractor. While I have never studied them turning side by side it seems to turn as tight as a non PS model. I have not experienced the problem you describe so I have no advice.

I have one of those in the W version.

A couple of things I would do before getting deep is to no 1 check for fluid in the res.

If you are kicking the tires and the wheel is turning but the steering wheel is not then you have big problems besides the power end of it. That would have to be isolated and fixed.

I guess first off would be to take the clothes off that tractor and do a couple of things like above.

Blocking up the front end a bit off the floor will take the weight off the system and help with diagnosis.

Get into it a little farther and post back, maybe.

Thanks Dave! I have already drained the fluid and flushed it. I cranked the tractor and turned the wheel with ease to the left but it stops and you here the pump load up and it will not turn anymore, but if i take the wheel and push it, it will go furtherand the steering wheel turns. but if i try again to turn on the steering wheel it stops and it acts like the piston is at end of stroke. I can turn 2/3 of way to right and it does the same thing. if it were out of time you would think it would turn all the way in one direction???? Do all power steering units turn as tight as the manual ones?
