1944 B Oil Return from Cylinder Head

This is an update on the 1944 B that won't drain oil from the valve cover to the crank case. Is this the right oil washer on this head?

I think I have the wrong part on this head to allow oil to return to the crankcase.

Head is a B2871R

All the John Deere 2 cylinder tractor have an opening where yours is plugged that lets the oil travel thru the block back to crankcase.I know my 1952 G does.

Is that some kind of valve that when the valve cover is installed that is forced open and let oil return to crankcase?

No, it appears to be a stud. Should that stud be hollow? There is no valve there.

Or is the hole below the stud? I know I have looked at pictures of heads on ebay and they appear to have several holes near the bottom of th head.

My head appears to be filling all the way up to the push rod tubes before it drains back to the crank case.

That stud holds the HEAD on. So if uou remove it, it needs to be torqued properly again. Being between the cylinders its the most important one. Something is very wrong, i have several heads, ill look & see but i thought they had 2 drain holes, one on either side of the supply washer?

All my heads are casting # b2501r. Later heads. But they have a hole on each side of that supply washer. Maybe its the erong washer? The parts book is a mess in that it lists contradicting #'s for different serial #'s.

Can anyone tell me the torque spec for the head bolts? I am concerned to remove just one.

The book says 1150 in lb I think. Is this 96 ft lb? (1150 / 12)

I'd say you need the correct washer to match your cyl. head number.

I don't have my parts book handy, but they do list all 3 (i think 3)head casting numbers that fit those tractors. And it does list the matching washer that matches the different later year cyl. head drain back holes.
All 3 of those cyl. heads interchangably fit from what like ser# 96,000, 1941 ? clear up until the last B made.

i can see by the picture that greenmeck has got it right you part # A4227R ihave one if you need want it $20.00 plus postage
