JD model L or LA rear rim size

I am going to look at a L or LA no serial number. What would be the chances of getting a ser # plate? I am told it has 7.5 X 20 rear tires. Is that the correct size? I am told they had 22 or 24 inch. Thanks to any one who has a comment on this.

jdman is correct. L has 22 inch LA has 24 inch. If it doesn't have a serial tag then you will have a hard time determining the year and there is no way to get the correct tag unless you have an original bill of sale with the number and a history to prove its the same tractor.

Previous owner has installed truck rims. Very
common fix years ago.
JD L had 22" 6 bolt dish wheel.
JD LA had 24" Cast center wheel.

Would these tires ( 20 inch ) sit the back of the tractor down enough to spoil the appearance? I have not saw it yet. How much would no ser # plate devalue the tractor?

Rims and tires are not cheap for reproduction ones and good used ones can be hard to come by. The rear end will sit lower and of course it will not be "correct". My LA does not have a serial number tag on it and it makes it hard to pin point the year and lowers the value. You have to rely on the parts on the tractor and the part number breaks in the parts book to try and pin point the year based on the changes.

My dad replaced his with manure spreader rims that were the correct size. This was 30 years ago, so do not know if they are available anymore.
