John Deere 70 diesel pony motor. Rebuild questions..

My next project will be freshening up are JD 70 diesel I'd like to rebuild the pony motor it doesn't have as much pep as the one on our 730 it also wont. Engage properly, you have to slip it into the gear first before the pony starts cranking good.. Any advice on this? It also seems to be leaking fuel from the right hand side of the block, if sitting on tractor.. Is this from fuel shut off or something else going wrong? I have a couple tractors to finish up, but it's on my list this summer..

I need to do some work on one of my 70D as the clutch does not lock when the lever is pulled back. My pony motors are all running better since I have made some of the carb adjustments as Blksmok suggested awhile back.

H&J machine in Carrington nd has every part for the ponys. Good prices. The 70 had a bit of a different engagement for cranking, sounds like the decompression portion of it needs adjusted..its touchy. Ive never done it. BuickandDeere knows this procedure....
