So i bought a GP...

I have various 2-cylinder tractors, but always wanted a GP. Found one, a 1932, by all accounts original, and pretty complete, cut-offs in very bad shape, but does have 2 pto's, one rearward and one forward facing.

I always buy the service and operators manuals for all my tractors (long before B&D said it was cool haha) and download the parts books. When i downloaded the parts catalog from deere for the GP, i was surprised that there were very few illustrations for the parts. the D parts manual predates the GP, so i expected it to be very similar. at least in comparison to the unstyled d parts book.

So now my question(s) - When looking at deere for the service manual and operators manuals, They seem to be listed differently, and yes, i buy them on cd.

DIR104CD - DIR/Instructions for General Purpose Tractors - Standard Tread, Wide Tread, Orchard Type - what does "DIR/Instructions" stand for?

SMF116CD - Model D Tractor, General Purpose Tractors, E Vintage Engines - Service Manual..what does F stand for? Is this as helpful as it leads one to believe?

SM2000CD - Tractors and Engines (Overview) Of Older Tractors - this contains information for a LOT of tractor models, does anyone have this and is it worth getting? i would think so, but it still leads me to wonder.

I will probably buy all 3, but i am curious if anybody has gotten more out of one than any other, or is there another book that deere has out there that would be more helpful relating to the GP.

I do wish deere would put more information regarding their manuals online, at least make it easier to make my choice. I do like the construction side website, they will allow you to purchase and download all the manuals via pfd, so as soon as i buy it online i can download it now. that is a great feature, and they are cheaper that way. I have mentioned that to the ag side before, but they seldom listen to me.

Side note, for anybody that downloads or buys their manuals online or cd, they come as a scanned pdf, not as text, the password for their manuals is MASTER, that will allow you to convert them to text and edit the pdf or do a search in it, i got that information from the IT tech support side.

So if anybody has any helpful advice on the GP manuals i would sure like to know.

The DIR104 is likely the "operators manual". If it's like my '38 D operators manual it includes a LOT of service and adjustment information as well.

I have all three on those books. Each is helpfull but none is very through. When I did my GP ser. 223803 I apllied general 2-cylinder specs. like most all shaft endplay is .001-.004,crank play is.006-.010. on head torque I used the numbers I think for an early A that used the same diamiter studs in the head. GP's are neat tractors.

It was interesting to see some of the older tractors listing manuals as a DIR/Information manual.

At least a lot of the specs are the same when relating to various 2 cylinder aspects, so i guess thats what is going to have to happen.

I posted a couple pics of my GP on another tread called 1931 john deere GP. I tried to show the dual PTO setup on mine. I am hoping i can get this tractor in the shop by fall.
