Exhaust Pipe Paint

I was thinking of painting the exhaust pipe and muffler on my 35A with "" stove " paint. Its supposedly good to 1200 degrees. Does anyone know how hot the exhaust pipe gets with only parade type duty. Any recommendations on rattle can paint? Thanks

I think I measured one on a 4230D (100 hp 6 cyl), actually the exhaust manifold, with a laser thermometer and it was right around 500F. You have a lot of margin.

It'll hold up well enough...
Used it on the Y pipe on my 820 diesel and it gets plenty hot. Hotter than a gas engine I'd think.

(quoted from post at 08:59:44 04/05/13) I have been using JD muffler paint, not cheap, but really holds up well.

I have also had good luck with this paint. I strip and bead blast all of the existing paint and rust off manifold, pipe and muffler first. Then I treat them with phosphoric acid, let dry and paint with JD muffler paint. I have had some for several years and they still look very good. I think killing the rust in the pits and pores is key to long term success especially on the manifold.

I used rustolium grill paint in a rattle can on my stack for my AR. It"s been 3 years and it still appears to be holding up.

I have been using grill paint on my mufflers and it seems to be working. I painted the one on my "R" 5 years ago and it still looks good.

Stove pipe paint will hold up fine. If you leave the tractor out in the weather you will have to paint it every other year or so, but the temperature should not be the concern.

I used VHT header paint on mine.It has held up good. You can get it at Orileys for around 10 bucks a can.

Beat me to it! I used it on my manifold, pipe and muffler on my '60 about 2 yrs. ago. Works fine (maybe 30hrs so far). HTH
