Oil in the clutch housing can cause the dry clutch to slip sometimes but work other times. I had one this winter that would slip in almost any gear when they brought it to me. Oil leak in clutch housing. I drove it and slipped it hard enough that it burned the oil off the dry disk and everything worked properly after that. Repaired the oil leak and replaced the dry clutch.

The dry clutch is a weak link in those, and even worse if they have been turned up, and most of them have been...the last one I did I turned the flywheel to give me .030 more spring pressure, and installed new springs.

One way to be sure if the dry clutch is slipping is engage the PTO. If it slows down when the tractor slows down it s the dry clutch. Also if it slips in every gear it s probably the dry clutch.
