JD 5105 condensation

I have JD 5105 bought it new in 2005, it now has 140 hours. Having problem with water coming from oil separator and when I check the fuel, water in fuel-I keep fuel tank full, keep tactor in garage, it never sits outside idle, diesel condition per JD recommendation, new injectors. Fuel filter is changed about every 3 months cause it starts missing, then when I ck fuel separator water will be in line. How do I correct the problem and what is causing this? Can it be the plastic fuel tank. Any help will be appreciated

140 hours in 8 years, that's less than twenty hours a year! Have you tried changing the fuel cap, maybe the tank isn't venting causing condensation. Good luck.

I dont think that tank vents through the cap. (2 on the 5105) There should be a vent line that exits the top of the tank. Sometimes its behind the seat and sometimes its hidden underneath the SMV sign. Check and see if it is clogged up.

My opinion is that plastic sweats less than steel because sweating is caused by something remaining cooler than the temperature of the environmental air. Plastic being lighter can follow easier as it takes fewer BTU's to make the temp change.

What is your fuel source? Is it on farm storage or delivered from where? Do you fill from a tank in the back of your p/u? Do you have a water separating fuel filter on your supply line like Goldenrod co. offers? I'd suspect the source as where the water originates.

Additionally, when you run your tractor, do you let it come up to normal operating temperatures, or do you just make short runs especially in the winter?

I fill the tank from back of p/u and buy from diesel dealer we have here. I have talked to another guy who has a 5205 and he buys from the same diesel dealer and has had to problem with condensation. I have a water separator on fuel filter and change fuel filter 4 times year due to condenstion. When I run the tractor I do let it get to normal operating temperature and in the winter I use the blade to scrape snow from our drive and several others. In the spring and summer I use the tractor for bush hogging and plowing the field. This afternoon I am checking the fuel vent to see if it is stopped up. JD has been no help and it has been there three times to be fixed along with new injectors installed.

Normally if tank vent is plugged then there's a lack of fuel flow causing engine to run poorly or die. Are you transporting your fuel in a 55 gallon drum?
