Well... Edward got the block out of his Late B ser# 268xxx and needs some parts and advice. Where would be the best place to find valve keepers and a gasket set? Also any advice on preparing the block for installation. The head has gone to a retired machinist who still has his valve grinder and says he needs a new set of keepers. I'm going by there Friday to check out the bores. Probably should put in new rings while we have it apart, as well as bearings.

To refresh everyone, he removed the block to get to the oil filter head which had been crushed and ruined by a previous owner and we had to remove the filter cap with a hacksaw. We were afraid that the same idiot had gone into the engine so he is checking the engine components, too.

Anything special need to be checked before we put her back together?

Rods are shim ajustable. Look at the head of the piston to see if they are oversized before you order rings. You should be able to find used valve keepers that are good. John deere should have new ones.

Valve keepers are $4 per pair at Deere. Or $1 per pair at H&J machine.

Mike the pistons and bores before getting the rings.
