Restoration question on wheels and reinstalling

I am in the process of redoing a John Deere B I pulled the
wheels off and had them blasted this weekend I will be
painting the tractor over the next two weekends.. The wheels
will be painited off the tractor.. What is the best way to reinstall
them without damaging the new paint? Hubs have been sand
blasted and axle has been wire wheeled very clean still seems
like it will be a right fit...

I always stand my wheels upright on a wheelie cart then lower the tractor to the height of the center of the wheel then push the wheel onto the axle.

Axle sleeve out of PVC works good and very inexpensive

You didnt say what kind of wheels but if you have tires to remount that again is another thing and if its the two part wheel and rim deal the sleeve thing isnt going to help

I do it similar to what Greenday described, once you get then started you can raise the wheel/tire up and kind of rock or walk it on.
You are right in that the primer and paint can make it a tight fit. I usually have to take a file and clean out the splines in the hub. Don't really file away any metal just remove any burrs and the primer/paint. Assuming your axle is good and clean as well, it should then go together without a whole lot of force.
