1948 John Deere B Carb

I have a 48 B that with help of a friend we painted it a year ago. It’s been running rich since then but it’s only used for putting around the yard and running up the road. I didn't worry about it until recently. One afternoon driving up the road it started to miss and run bad so I thought the I would try to adjust the carb. Well I mess it up even more and needed help.

I looked through the archives and found some great advise on how to set the carb. Back in Aug 2007 Mike M wrote “The one on the flywheel LH side is the idle and the one on the RH side close to the fanshaft is the load. Start with 1 3/4 turn out on idle and 3/4 to 1 turn out on load. Every once in awhile the idle needs to go out 2 or more.” This worked and along with 2 new spark plugs the tractor runs better than it has since i owned it.

Just wanted to say thank you for this advise and all the advise I have looked up over the years. This forum is a great resource for information on how to fix your tractor even if you don’t post a question.

I have to agree with the above post. Even if you don"t have a question there is a lot to be learned from all the comments. A great source of info. Like having your own mechanic on call. Thanks to all .
