6405 tire size

I have a 6405 mfwd. I need to purchase front tires. It currently has 12.4-24. I was on tractor data and it says that it should have 14.9-24. Does anybody have the answer on what is right. I want to be sure to get the right size for the drive train.

According to JDparts.com the frt rim width is 10" so a 14.9 would be too wide.

My JD 6230 has 14.9-24 fronts but two other sizes where available like 13.6-24 and 12.4-24. But you need to replace the front tires with the same size you took off. Each size uses a different gear set to match the front tires with the rear tires. If you put on a different size tire, then the gear set would be wrong and the MFWD would not pull right. My 6230 owners manual lists all the gear sets for the available tires sizes front & rear. The gear sets in your tractor are listed on the transmission serial tag but you need the owners manual to decode them. Al

IF I counted correctly 6230 offers 14 different gear ratios in the MFWD dive gear case while the 6405 offers "3" ratios.
