Population Monitor

Got a problem with either my population monitor or the sensors on my JD 7000 planter. i've never used it since i've owned the planter so yesterday i hooked it up and planted some old soybean seed as a test, while planting the digital screen stayed at 0 and all row lamps stayed on, i moved the control knob and nothing happened, when i lifted the planter out of the ground the alarm sounded. I'm sure its either the monitor or the seed sensors, i just don't want to go throwing parts on it not knowing whats wrong.

It's been a while since I have worked on those, but if it's not receiving single from the ground wheel it will not make a count, check the connections first, give them a little twist to help with the cleaning, make sure something did not get into the wheel sensor ...If it was a tube sensor it would still count the other rows...

I"ve had 3 7000s since 1976. Current is a 6r30 from a consignment sale where the PO said the monitor did not work. JD tech son used the dealer tester to determine monitor was ok. Found by plugging contactor at tractor, and pulling out an eighth inch, lights worked fine. To check sender, look down the tube with monitor on. You should see red glow of two lights in seed tube. When connecting at tractor I spray WD40 and wire brush both ends.

Yes, must of the troubles center on the connections,,or a broken wire in a "Wiggle Zone"...

Some debate exists as to whether the solvent in WD40 acts just as good as bonafide electrical contact cleaner with very many stories landing in the YES column. Yours too it seems, good on ya all over for sharing and it's amazing how many times the very same thing is independently re-discovered and used by so many different people.
