JD B compression donuts

I just purchased a 1945 B for parts and inside the cylinders is a ring that is about an inch deep and about an inch wide . I believe this is a filler to increase compression. Are these a common item and how were the installed and more important how are they removed.

It is not a power block. The block is a stock JD #B 1783R with a stock head and what appears to be stock , flat top pistons. Thanks , anyhow, Tom

Probably "Hollingsworth Compression Inserts". I think they are just driven in. Don't see too many.

Mark-Ia,
Thanks for the tip. I looked the information up on the Hollingsworth Compression Ring and after looking at the details from the patent ,this is exactly what I have. I wonder now if they have any value? Thanks a lot for the tip, I really appreciate it.Tom

I had a set from an unstyled A a few years back. I sold them on ebay back when ebay was fun. I think they brought $75 or so. There isnt really much demand for them since all aftermarket pistons are now high compression style.

They might be sold to a guy that collects vintage aftermarket items. He might hang them on the wall as a conversation piece.

If you look close at some hi comp pistons , the head looks just like you added this ring to the top of the piston. Basically does the same thing so yes there still are people wanting them. I sold a set for '37 A for $65 and just saw a set for early B bring $55 on e-bay.
