4020 HYD FLO RATE FOR VERMEER RAKE

Had my neighbor ask this and didn"t know the answer. Will a 71 4020 syncro have the flow rate and cooling capacity needed to run a vermeer twin rake? Or are they run from a pto pump?

You can turn the flow rate down on the scv and get by. Yes the '71 4020 has an oil cooler but you'll still need gloves to unhook the hoses after rake has been operated for any length of time. Back when I owned a Vermer R23 I installed a pto pump on it and turned the long tongue into a oil reservoir. I then pulled the rake with a Ford 3000.

That's what I was thinking of telling him also. Make it like a hydro swing swather setup.

Ya know, you guys that are actually farming (I did a stint on my own claim{160 a.}30+ yrs. ago). the fact that you know all this stuff boggles my poor little brane. Good on ya !

The boxed in tongue will hold close to 20 gallons(going off my memory from about 15 yrs ago) of hyd oil. To me operating the 2 orbit motors to power the baskets will shorten the life of hyd seals/o-rings plus it defeats the whole purpuse of closed-center hyd's
