John Deere 60 Running rough continued.

Guys, Thank you to all who replied to my last question. I have got the tractor running a little better. I put another new coil on, replaced primary stud in distributor, and adjusted the valves. Reset the load needles on the carb and back them out to 2 1/2 turns. The tractor runs great at an idle to about half throttle. No smoke of any color and no back firing. My question is it possible to over rev the motor. What is the RPM range the tractor should have? I have no tach, but using a timing light to determine RPM. Any help here would be great. Thanks

1115 RPM is supposed to be "high idle". If your govenor is in good shape and the linkage is correct, you should be good to go. HTH

First of all the needles you refer to are IDLE adjustment ., not load. The load is adjusted by the large slotted screw that is in the center of the BOWL retaing nut. Best way to set that , is engine totally up to temp, at least 170. The idle needles are set one cyl at a time, also at operating temp, one plug wire, then the other removed and takes a little getting used to with a tack being used also. The RPMS you asked for are 975 loaded same as a (A), and 1115 high idle , give or take a couple at high idle. Some tractors on the load screw, need varying adjustment, any wear from closed to a turn or 2 depending on cond of tractor ,carb and area conds.
