Tool Question for Tim S

Tim; In one of your other posts you spoke of doing a fair number of Quad Range transmissions this year which got me wondering where did you come up with some of the tools you need for that job and many of the other ones you get into. Thinking of the likes of the dummy shaft for the bottom shaft install, rear crank seal intallation etc. Yes I know OTC supplies the like but was thinking a little more economical (second hand or custom built?) All info graciously accepted, Bob

In the 1980's a lot of Deere dealers went belly up around here, I picked up a lot of the tools I needed at their sales, I have about every thing except the dummy shaft set up for the big tractors, like 8630's, but I never had them at the dealer I worked at ether, there is more room in the case to deal with them. I have all the clutch tools for the Perma Clutches, even the big 4X4's,, I have made some tools for the front ends of the 4960 style axles, and made some nice handy tools for other operations as I needed them,,if they worked out good I would paint them and hang them up :^)

Tx Jim I did not see those but thats the kind of oppourtunity one might need. Tim I know what you are saying about the dealer close out deals...never in the right place at the right time. Had a customer come into the shop one day had the Waterloo clutch tools in a box....Everything for the job...he kind of knew what he had was a mechanic at this dealership in the 60's-early 70's. Bought the tools at an auction $15.00 (!)
