Brakes on 41 B

Brake drum rivets are all loose on right side only. what is the best way to fix this? On tractor or remove 3 bolts and take assembly off. Can you recommend a good service manual? New to this site.

Unless someone else has a magic way of doing this, you'll have to remove the brake assembly with those three bolts you talk about. Otherwise, you won't be able to put any pressure on the back side of the rivets.

As far as a repair manual, check out I&T JD4. General repair manual, NOT all inclusive, skips a few things that I've run into.

I've heard there is another service manual, but I've never purchased it. I will wait and see what others suggest. I may have to purchase this myself if everyone agrees it's worth the money.

Checked the [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]SERVICE MANUAL ON THE JOHN DEERE B TRACTOR SM2004[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] on page 150-5-2 under the INSPECTION AND REPAIR heading.

The service manual recommends installing new rivets cold.

Checked on page 80 of the parts catalog PC0330 - B 60000.

Notice the rivet head is inside the drum securing the inner dust guard.

Hope this helps.

Big help, it has been many years ago that dad had new brake drums put on. so I can get the drum off while on tractor then take assembly off so new rivets are put through from inside. Dad passed away last month at age 92 and I want to keep the tractor in good repair.I"m not on to posting pictures yet but will try sometime.

If they are not too loose yet sometimes just tightening them up some more helps. Take the brakes apart so it looks like in James picture. I set them up on a THICK steel plate on the floor and take a large long rod for a punch and a BIG hammer and tighten them.

While I have it apart will just put in new ones. not sure how this happened. Are they special rivets from JD? Thanks everyone for the help.
