830 Power Steering

I"m working on the power steering on my buddys 830. I have the Sm2050 manual and it says to set the pressure to 130 when the steering valve is center and tractor at fast idle. I do this, however, when set to 130 psi, the tractor steers hard. What should I be looking at or setting? I cleaned the relief valve up also.

Does it steer better if you turn it up some? The I T Manual says Adjust flow control valve in to obtain the fastest turning speed with out wheel flutter . That seems to work for me.What is your max pressure?1250 or so?

The only thing I see that would be max pressure is the relief valve opening, which is suppose to be between 1170 and 1210. I'm wondering if the book has a misprint and you are suppose to set it at 1130 or something because at that pressure it steers very nice. Anymore help is appreciated!

You are adjusting the flow control valve with the screw driver slot and jam nut--that is the amount of "back pressure " you have at center - you adjust the pressure with shims on the pressure valve If you can make it steer better with the flow control turned in leave it---but if you get a fluttering of the front wheels back it out some. What was the original problem?

When every thing was new you can get by with 130# I supose-- I set them up where they steer the best-----if she steers smooth both ways and stays centered -----put the hood back on!! LOL Your a brave man very few guys around here will even work on a 2 cyl power steering
