730 camshaft

Has anyone tryed to weld up a 730 Diesel camshaft injector lobe? or is a good replacement the only way to fix it? I have such a camshaft and found out from a tractor salvage yard it was a common problem along with the rollers that ride on these lobes that flake and pit. Any experience that you folks had with this would be appreciated, Thank You..

There is a machine shop in Houston that I have used on occasion; they can literally weld up and regrind your entire camshaft, and fairly economically. If you need the number I can get it for you. Hugh

There are a couple of places that weld them up and advertise the regrind to produce 6-10% more power. I've only seen the ads in Green and Two Cylinder magazines and cannot personally conform. Should be able to Google to find the re-grinders if you don't take either of these magazines.

Hill Crest Cam shaft reworked mine. They did an excellant job.

I have the AR 20247 cam and AF 20168 R rollers new.You also want to check the key way on the drive end as they crack out. 410-643-2899

I am planning to put 830 valves in my 730D - I would be grateful for thoughts on what to do with the camshaft - put a modified one in or leave standard?

Effingham regrinding in Effingham,Il. (217-342-4186) ask for Dean. They built up my crankshaft and reground it and built up the fuel injector lobes on the cam and reground them as well.
