2 speed in 40 series Waterloo models

Correct me if I'm wrong , but I'm sure that the 2 speed unit from a QR 4440 differs from one fitted to a 4240 , in that the larger model has a direct/overdrive unit , the smaller model is an underdrive/direct unit . This was done , in conjunction with a different speed reduction at the final drives to increase transmission speed and reduce torque loadings . What I'd like to know is , would a 4440 QR 2 speed fit in a 4240 QR transmission ? The extra speed would be very useful here in the UK ( and Europe )as we tend to use our tractors more for road haulage . I understand there will be a loss in torque handling ability , but I can live with that .

According to parts catalog 4165 - 4040, 4240, 4440 Tractors (European Edition) - 12May11 the hyd hi-lo(2 speeds) have some different parts when comparing 4240 to 4440. Some of the different parts are the pinions (parts keys #7 & #10) The final drive planetaries are different between 4240 & 4440's. Since the pinions(parts keys #3) are identical for the 4240 & 4440 I'm not agreeing with the theory of """in that the larger model has a direct/overdrive unit , the smaller model is an underdrive/direct unit"""
