Compression on a 60

I am hoping to look at a 60 on Sunday. Guy said I could check compression. My data shows 140 psi for a gas 60. What would be an acceptable reading for a "used" Tractor? Tim, do you have any opinions? Thanks

They would need to be fresh to have 140,,the 110 area would be okay, and if you use 2 different compression testers you will get 2 different readings. See how well it starts,,all of mine will only start with the throttle all the way back at idle, then bump it up slowly till it picks up. after it warms up listen to how it sounds on wide open ,,and then on Idle..

I'd also be concerned with the condition of the crankshaft splines. Clutch end and fylwheel end.
Inspect the bottom of the head and block for any evidence of cracks or welds.
Any antifreeze seepage at the head gasket ? and see how it starts and runs right after starting. If it misses for awhile then clears up it may have an antifreeze leak into the cylinders. The model 60 are prone to cracking the inside of the block right above ring travel.

Thanks for the info, it is appreciated. The experience of all the folks on this forum is a great help. While some things may be common sense, if you have not worked on stuff for a while you forget. Thanks

My new sleeved and new rings and brgs. engine shows 130# on a 25 yr. old compression guage. It has about 30 hrs on it now and is still the same (as it should be). Luck !
