another 3020 question

Got the 3020 started today. Forgot that it needed a quart of oil, so I dumped one in while it was running, didnt want to shut it off right away. Saw bubbles coming back up the oil tube as i dumped oil in. If im losing coolant, its not much, but the head gasket does weep some oil, planning on fixing that this summer. Question..is that a symptom of a head gasket, or is something more wrong?

Does it weep oil on the RH (pushrod) side of the head gasket? If so, that is quite common and does NOT necessarily explain coolant loss.

its weeping on rh side head gasket. I dont think its losing coolant-if it is it is very little, not noticable over the last 50 hours of use anyway. I was just wondering if the compression leak through the oil would be indicating anything else other than a head gasket.

Piston blow-by. I have seen a dipstick bounce around on the volume of air trying to get out of the crankcase.

Mine does the exact same thing but is also damp around # 2 cyl. and seeping a little collant out the weeap holes on the left side of motor.

yea..I learned this the hard way while working for a dairy farmer at about 16 years of age, adding oil to a 3020 or 4020. Only took once to learn.

Is your oil seepage towards the rear right side of the engine in the distribuor area? We found it quite normal that the oil galley feeding oil to your rocker arms would eventually seep to the outside of the engine. There often is no combustion leekage or loss of coolant. Be sure and resurface the head and at least use a good sealant around that galley. Why Deere did not use a tube oil galley instead of relying on the gasket to seal this is a real question
