My father-in-laws 4020 has what appears to be a 4020 gas dipstick on it. It looks like a plus sign with the dipstick screw coming through the top and it doesnt screw into the tube in the block. Does anyone have a suggested fix or have a dipstick laying around they want to sell? It feels like the cap i currently have is too small and just spins on top without catching the threads. Thanks for any help. Kris A NC |

| | Without looking at the part number, I'd say my 68 4020 has the same cap. I replaced mine last year as the threads were stripped, and the replacement part looks identical to the first. And the threads were good on the new one! I think you probably have the right part with damaged threads. good luck! |

| | What year is the 4020? Those prior to 1969 had the cross-type grip on top. My 64 has a cast steel top, my 68s have a different metal, maybe aluminum. As for it not threading tight, have you checked the treads? More than one has stripped out over the years. New ones are available from Deere. If you post a pic and the serial number, someone here will be able to tell you if you have the right one. |

| Coonie Thanks for the reply. The serial number is T213R 157439R. Its a '67 model. I have a feeling it was "switched" since it was purchased at auction. The part number on the bottom of the cap is R26175R. I have attached a picture of the cap on bottom and a picture of a different cap on a gas model OF A DIFFERENT TRACTOR with the same cap as on the diesel. Same cap different tractor
Part number under the cap I have.
Thanks for the help Kris A NC. |
