tractor magazines

I can't afford to subscribe to both Green Magazine and Two Cylinder, so what advantage does one have over the other? I currently own a 1945 JD model A hand start and a 1964 JD 4020 diesel. Thanks, Ray

I made a similiar choice, I dropped Two Cylindar and kept Green Magazine. My son has a JD60 but I have all New Generation. It seemed Green Magazine was a little more equaly interested in both. Also, there is alot of overlap in the ads. I am not sure which has the most ads. Paul

I went with Green Mag, for the same price 12 issues instead of 6 with two cyl and I didn't have to join their club.

I'm going to drop the two cyliner magazine.I don't read it anymore,to much technical info i'm not interested in.

Ray, I'm going to chime and and differ with the others. I dropped my Green magazine. It got to be very frustrating for me every month to see error after error. While I did enjoy many parts of it I hate to see misinformation distributed as "fact". Their research seemed to be sorely lacking at times, sometimes on very basic things. While there are things done at Two-Cylinder I in no way support they do a pretty good job of putting out reputable information. Mike

Two Cylinder has a close relationship with Deere. This can be good and not so good. Their articles are more accurate but do not publish as many money saving ideas with aftermarket parts as Green Magazine. Two Cylinder is also a little more focused on restorations with every detail being correct while Green focuses more on working tractors.

I get The Green Magazine and son gets 2 Cyl. We exchange every month so works out good.

I dropped the two cylinder magazine years ago, they are just "TOO ARROGANT" for me.

Both informative.The Jan/Feb 2008 issue was very good on New Gen numbers.There seem to be people that think 2 cyls. were the last real tractor that JD made.There is room for both and to each his own.I would like to see one called 4&6 Cylinder as I deal in nice NewGen tractors.We can all learn.The last 2 Cyl had 18 pages dedicated to JD old parts deparment replication that I skipped .Just glad that they both can continue as the internet has made it hard for any publications to survive.We do have people that contribute to this site that would be great Mr.Thinkers.

I am fortunate to feel I can afford both, but I think Two cylinder is the magazine for more accurate information and apparently the ability to edit. Some Green Magazine regulars ramble on for half a page about the weather/what I like/my favorite etc. I still would recommend finding a swap buddy so you can see both. Lots more good in each than bad.

I get four magazines, two green, one red, and Antique Power. I like my green tractors but when you have reworked two cylinders and new generation for over 30 years there isn't much new stuff to see. The basic engineering is agout all the same. I like seeing new stuff not repatition. How many times can you read about pulling the B out of the weeds before it gets old? Antique Power gets my vote.

I dropped green mag,I should drop 2-cyl.too much new gen stuff for me,I want to learn about 2-cylinders!(the actual tractors)I don't have new gen stuff!And I'M NOT GOING TO SET UP A PARTS COUNTER!!!!!!!!!!

I get GM, the Hook and steal my father-in-law's Antique Power every other month. AP is my favorite, as I enjoy all tractors, just some more than others. GM is mostly good, but I could do without the toy stuff and parts since I'm not interested and some of the technical aspects, as they don't apply to me directly. Overall, I do enjoy the feature articles, tractor doctor, ebay and Mr. Thinker, to name a few.

I can't imagine owning an A and a 4020 and not being able to afford less than a hundred bucks on informative publications each year...but I guess oil changes cost more than they used to.

It really depends on what sort of information you like and your tastes to make a good decision on which to subscribe. I get both magazines, but I would tend to lean toward GM due to their real world approach (folks who actually work their antiques rather than have museums in which to store them) that fits my preferences in how I enjoy the hobby. Being published monthly is a plus for me as waiting every other month seems like a long time these days (must be the grey winter days).

My 2 cents...

I dropped them both years ago. Just seemed like it was getting to repetitive on the same topics and lots and lots of ads !
But if you are currently working on a project these would be a great source to see all the current parts vendors.
I have seen our local TSC sell it so you would not have to suscribe, but just pick up a copy as needed.

I should spend the money on Duane Larsons collection of service bulletins. But I just don't work on this stuff much anymore.
