John Deere B

Good day! I am working on a 1939 John Deere B. I have 4.500 dia bores and 1 1/4 dia wrist pins. I had an issue with crankshaft (splines for clutch shot) so I bought a used crank supposedly from a 1940 B. The mains on this crank measure 2.750. My old mains were a lot smaller, did not measure, but likely 2.500 or less. So I bought 2 used connecting rods to fit this crank. I now have 2 rods that fit mains, but now my wrist pins are wrong. The pistons I have sport a 1 1/4 dia wrist pin, while the rods I bought have a 1 3/8 dia wrist pin bore. My question is, can I buy 4.500 dia pistons with 1 3/8 wrist pins or should I just go ahead and make oversize bushings for the new rods and put it together. I also need to find a new set of rings, all of my normal suppliers have 4 11/16 dia rings for a later model. Any help will be appreciated, John

the 39 was a tractor of its own for the most part lots of parts will not work on that yr modle.good luck

Sounds like the hole your digging is getting deeper and deeper. If your orginal block, rods and etc. were ok , just get the correct crankshaft. Now my sales pitch, I parted out a 1940 B (ser 89xxx) I have a crankshaft with good splines . If I can be of any help contact me be email or call 573 535 8952, Tom.

Sounds like You will be farther ahead to fix the splines on the one you had unless the journals are shot ?

Also sounds like you got a crank from one just a wee bit too new.
