when setting the intake vave on left side should i have flywheel on LH Impulse and when setting exhaust valve should I have the flywheel on LH Exhaust? and just the opposite for the right hand side? Thanks, mark.

No. Set BOTH valves on the left cylinder with flywheel @ L.H. impulse(spark event). You must verify its on the compression stroke by turning it until the intake valve opens(valve toward middle of head) then closes, then turn to impulse mark. Then to do cylinder #2, turn flywheel 1/2 turn (180°).
If you set it at exhaust mark that means the exhaust valve is open(wont work).
