8430 transmission drag

Customer brought tractor in wanting us to install a new speed shift cable. Shifter was really stiff, installed new cable and adjusted per manual. Shifts better now but wants to move when range lever is engaged and labours engine a bit when range lever in park and speed shifter in nuetral. Wondering if top shaft syncro is piling up?

That is a possibility, have you let it warm up good and tried it, those Hogs never did shift smooth with that big clutch creating some drag just naturally... They always wanted to 'jump' a bit as they were shifted into gear...

My 8400 will do that when it is cold, especially with the chip in it. Sitting there in park, the governor will surge and it just rocks. When it warms up, I don"t notice it. It is a 97. The WORST is when , I think, it shifts between 12 and 13. It will throw you over the steering wheel. Dealer said to shift 2 gears up or down, then just 1. It works sometimes.
