Tractor Salvage Yards

The dealership and bone yard in Franktown was/is owned by Greg Stephen, authority on all things JD, seller of rare and NOS stuff on ebay, author of books on JD "stuff", etc. It is my understanding that he doesn't sell from the tractors he has (if he still has any) and is maybe a little on the reclusive side. Would be interested myself if anyone knows the current "situation" with him. There was a salvage yard along Hwy 34 going to Greeley that had a bunch of B's, but they got pretty picked over and they scrapped them all a year ago or so.
Rick, I just looked back at your post from 2/9/13. Didn't know you had posted back with having figured out the serial number. So it is a steel tag (part of the reason it was so hard to read) and it is actually a 42 model B. It was likely built about mid/late Sept 41 by my estimation.
I thought the scenery in the background of your pics looked like CO. My inlaws lived outside Cripple Creek for years and just recently moved down to C.S. for health reasons. I live northeast of Denver.

Here is a listing that might help: http://www.farmnetservices.com/salvage/COLORADO_FARM_MACHINERY_EQUIPMENT_SALVAGE_&_USED_TRACTOR_PARTS/6-0.html.

I drove past where Sharp's had been in Franktown (right at the intersection). Nothing there any more. So I'm guessing that he relocated to a different location nearby.

I live in Salida, CO. There are a number of waterloo twins in the vicinity; I'm a debuque owner.

That's funny I would have never guessed you all lived in Colorado. I have been to martins salvage it's pretty well picked over.If any of you are up in Fort Collins, Co give me a call. Dwight 970-690-1582

There use to be a tractor yard on the east side of Rocky Ford. There was also a larger one about 5 miles south of Rocky Ford on Hwy 10. It's been many years since I've been down there but it was fun to walk through all the old tractor stuff.

As for Franktown, Greg still writes a column in Green Mag. When he sold all of his old tractor stuff a year or 2 ago he had a lot of pictures showing the semi trucks loaded with tractors being taken away.
