Shop Manual for JD model B - help requested

I am looking for a really good shop (service) manual for a friend of mine who is working on his "B".

1. Is the official JD shop (service) manual still available?

2. At home I have an after-market shop (service)manual that covers A, B, D, & maybe other tractors. I"m away for the winter and don"t have the publisher or manual name & number with me!

We are working on this "B" without a manual - yikes!

Get a reprint of the John Deere SM2004 service manual for the B tractor. Half the price of Deere's copy and exactly the same. One place is in Davenport, Iowa and it has the same name as the town.

The JD manual you're looking for is SM-2004 which is still available from JD for $95 in printed form and $50 on CD. It covers the model B from ser# 96000 and up.

SM-2004 is also available from other sources like Davenport Tractor and Jensales. The printed one from Davenport is $49.

You're description of the manual you have at home sounds like the I&T manual JD-4. It only gives specs and procedures and is helpful to experienced mechanics. SM-2004 is a far superior manual for your needs.
